Left the Chinchilla Showgrounds....onto the Warrego Way headed to Roma....we pulled in at Dullaca and had a look at the pub stay but the town was sparse so we headed on.....a lot of coal steam gas wells dotted in the farmers paddocks!!! They burn off at times and apparently the sky glows orange with the fumes....,Nos they say they are not harmful but reading tells me a different story as the people in Tara are complaining about breathing complaints, rashes and nausea...!!!???
There was a documentary released in 2010 by HBO in America directed by Josh Fox called Gasland about the effects of coal seam gas mining in the Delaware River Basin in America.....basically what happens is they put water, sand and chemicals down into the ground to create "cleats"..... cracks in the rocks to obtain the gas....fracking!!! This has apparently harmed the water to the degree some people's water taps are on fire!!! I intend to download this documentary and have a look when I get home.....should be interesting viewing!!!
There are also a lot of dongas near and in the towns along the way!!!
First town we stopped at to have a cuppa was at Ulebar....a Cobb and Co town started after the Bendemere Pastoral lease of114,080 acres was surrender back to the crown in1913.

Main Street of Ulebar....not much happening....one small shop...PO and a police station and school!!
On the road towards Roma next stop at Wallumbulla....another sparse spot but a pub and dongas in the paddock out back behind the pub!!

Along the way evidence of the Prickly pear.. a real problem in the 19th century bought to Australia in 1788 by Captain Phillip to Paramatta as it was used to make the red dye for the army's jackets! (Cochineal) The pear became an invasive species spreading through NSW and QLD rendering 15,000 square miles of farming land unproductive until they introduced a moth whose larvae eat the pear and by 1925 it almost wiped out the pears population!!!
I pinched these pictures of the net to show how big it grows!!

This case is often sited as an example of successful biological pest control!!
Set up in Roma for 2 nights at the Big Rig Caravan Park.....took a walk down the street and had lunch at the upmarket Royal Hotel...big upgrade!!!Buck bought himself a shirt at the local store Golders and the lady who owns it saw me out the front with Moose.... she fell in love as she wanted a Shnauzer and ended up with a daschound Audrey.....she invited Moose and I in and he and Audrey preceded to chase one another around the store...through and under the clothes racks...hilarious! Moose was a good boy as I was worried he'd cock his leg!!!!

Hard to get an overall picture of this boab.....it's huge...compare it with the cars parked under it!!
We have a spot of rain which is good as it will settle the dust that was blown around today in the wind!!!
