Nestled in the Surat basin on the Darling Downs the town has approx 6000 people and is still growing due to the Cole seam gas.It also has the Kogan Creek Power Station.....which created a boom but has also a bust....the town is steadily growing again now!!
Situated approx 300 kms west- northwest of Brisbane it was established in 1877...as a construction camp on the banks of Charley's Creek !
Agriculture is still one of the towns mainstays for the local community....
The town also is known as the Melon capital of Australia and plays host to a Melon Festival every second year in February!! Visit Chinchilla in February 2019 and be part of the Melons.....???

We are set up at the Chinchilla Showgrounds....power and water..$20 a night!!
