HILLSTON....DARLINGTON POINT..

Arrived in Hillston and had a quiet day in the sun which maybe our last for a while looking at the weather as we venture further south...not far now but we won't be home till Wednesday this week!!
Arrived at the Darlington Point Riverside Caravan Park on the Murrumbidgee River 30 kms south of Griffith...on the Kidman Way

In 1866 a punt was purchased for use at the Darlington Point-Waddai crossing...the owner was Jacob Adams previously publican of the Darlington Inn..the punt was said to be  the largest in the colony with the capacity to carry 1700 sheep in one trip!! This bridge was the original crossing for the river and now forms the entrance to the caravan park!
The Punt Hotel replaced the Riverina in 1881...

Also a businessman from Griffiths has started a zoo...his ambition and travels the world sourcing good blood lines for the zoo!!

You can do a 2 and a half hour horse drawn coach ride around the grounds!!

        STEVIE!!!!  ALAN !!!!!

Got to Narrandera and the rain is on us.....stopped off at Caltex road house and had a truckies breakfast....decided we will head home as no point sitting around in the rain in the van!!!!

End of my blog till the next adventure!!! Cheers xx

COBAR....GILGUNNIA...HILLSTON

Left Cobar onto the Kidman Way towards Mount Hope...

Time for a cuppa at a rest area that once was a gold mine with 3 pubs in the area.....

A little outback sculpture....

Refers to the above sculpture...

Evidence of a few vans that stayed overnight...camp fire....these areas have water tanks....toilet and a wood BBQ area plus bins and it was nice and tidy!!!

Left the rest area and lights flashing coming towards us...ended up being some friends we met on the road years ago.....lovely catch-up......bottle of champagne....perfect!!

Back on the road and onto Hillston for the night!!!!

EULO...BOURKE.....COBAR....

Left Eulo after a great day at the mud bath...dinner with some fellow travellers at the pub...on the Mitchell Hwy to Bourke...passed through a town called Barrigun where the local publican is 92 yrs old..The Dynans from Albury are related to her....

Buck sits out the front and has a chat to her....

On the road and goats galore......

Lots of kids with their mums!!!!

Had a stop at Bourke after crossing the border into NSW but the caravan park didn't have a site suitable so we ventured onto Cobar.....stay for a couple of nights...temperature is a lot cooler although expecting 20 today and the sky has cleared since yesterday .....back to blue again!!!

   Church and pub....

Decided to take a walk to the heritage centre which turns out to be the original office building for the Old Copper Mine....right next door....it became a boarding house and then derelict until it was restored and now used as a Heritage and Tourist info spot!!

Great lot of history with the first copper mine and now there are 3 gold mines in the area....

Not sure I would have been as keen to do the washing in the old days.....

EULO....WEST OF CUNNAMULLA

Left the Warrego Rivershore Park...headed into town to do a shop..then out west 68 kms to Eulo....known for its Artesian Mud baths and yes I've booked in this afternoon for 11/2 hrs of what I presume will be sheer pleasure.... WATCH THIS POST!!!

Lovely park in behind the pub...power and water and a cement slab and green grass for $25!

The Pub...

Eulo was renowned for its opals.....

Outdoor area at the side of the pub...

A story to be told about Isabel.....publican....shopkeeper and prostitute....she was married but her husband didn't mind that she shared herself around!!!

What a honey!!!!????

          Police Station...opal shop...general store!!

A few prehistoric animals roamed this area.......

And not so prehistoric.....now I know why there is a cattle grid on entering the caravan park!!

Braford...what you get when you put a Brahman bull over a Hereford cow!!

 Off to my bath.....

My bath awaits...a collection of clawed feet baths set up...a very warm milky bath for a 30 min soak...glass of wine and a small platter of nibbles....

Naked and lovin it!!!.....out of the soak....mud pack on...let dry....under the shower and back in bath for another 15 min soak!!

Dry off then lather on some natural moisturiser!!! Bliss!!
